1960s Inverted-Pleat Skirt PDF Sewing Pattern

Prepared after purchase: USD 25. Smooth panels and a few deep inward folds shape this original 1960s-inspired skirt. A fitted narrow waistband and mid-calf hem give the proposed design a clean, gently flared outline.

Planned panel and pleat construction

Two inverted pleats sit at the side-front panel joins, with a matching pair at the side-back joins. The upper sections are held closed toward the hip before opening into deep folds below. Broad smooth panels remain between the pleats, rather than an all-around row of outward box folds. A concealed side zipper provides the planned opening.

The front and back previews use slate-blue suiting, and the charcoal front keeps the same waistband, pleat positions and hem length. This product covers one skirt cut; different colors do not represent additional pattern views.

Fabric and sewing

Consider light wool suiting, a suitable wool blend or a stable woven with enough body to hold a pressed fold. Solid colors make the panel joins and inward pleats clear. Test pressing, seam bulk and crease recovery before choosing final cloth.

A toile must establish waist and hip ease, pleat depth and release position, movement and hem balance. The zipper opening and waistband finish will be resolved together during preparation. The design is inspired by an early-1960s silhouette; it is not presented as an authenticated reproduction from one exact year.
