A supple satin or fluid crepe is a possible starting point. Compare samples for seam slippage, pressing marks and the way they move when held vertically. A pale colour can show seam allowances and underlayers, so opacity should be assessed under the lighting in which the dress will be worn.

A toile should check the front neckline, strap geometry and security of the low back. The skirt would then need a hanging test before its final hem is levelled. Walking, turning and sitting checks are important for a trailing hem, especially with the intended shoes. The sewing approach should allow careful handling of long edges and a clean finish around the open back, keeping the emphasis on the drape and crossing straps.
