Double Flounce Mini Skirt PDF Sewing Pattern

Prepared after purchase. Digital delivery within 1 business day. Two overlapping gathered flounces give this planned mini skirt its soft, layered hem. The dark plum design has a plain upper section, a narrow elastic waist and an opaque skirt foundation beneath the ruffles.

Two free ruffles around one skirt

• One adult skirt with an above-knee hem
• A narrow elastic casing at the natural waist
• A plain upper skirt with softly distributed waist gathers
• A continuous opaque foundation beneath the lower flounces
• Two separately attached gathered flounces that encircle the lower skirt
• An upper free hem overlapping the top of the lower ruffle, with two visible free edges
• The same uninterrupted ruffle arrangement around the back

Each flounce hangs from its own attachment to the skirt foundation. The lower sections are not horizontal tiers sewn end to end to form the skirt body. The design has no broad shirred yoke, pockets, zipper, ribbon or bow. This preparation covers one design and length.

Fabric and sewing preparation

A light, opaque, non-stretch cotton micro-dobby is the planned starting fabric. The previews show a solid dark plum cloth with a subtle woven texture. Choose a fabric that gathers softly without adding excessive bulk where the two flounces overlap. Test opacity, shrinkage, hem finishing and the casing with your chosen elastic before cutting the garment.

The English guide will address assembling the foundation, forming the elastic casing, distributing the ruffle gathers, placing the two attachment lines and finishing each free edge. Exact gathering ratios, elastic length, seam allowances and material quantities will be confirmed during preparation.

Make a complete trial skirt to check pull-on access, waist recovery, sitting room and the overlap between the flounces. Check the hem position while standing and seated before choosing the finished length for your measurements.

The Tiered Gathered Skirt uses joined horizontal sections that build fullness toward the hem. The Shaped-Yoke Skirt places one gathered lower skirt beneath a smooth fitted upper section. This mini instead keeps a continuous foundation under two independently hanging flounces.
