Plan an 1980s-inspired dress with a shawl collar, loose pleated bodice and a front zip that stops at the natural waist. A self-fabric sash balances the soft upper-body volume above a straight midi skirt.
Front zip, stitched pleats and a soft shawl collar
- Continuous shawl collar forming a V neckline above the center-front zipper.
- Front zipper running from the base of the neckline to the natural-waist seam.
- Vertical stitched pleats on the front and upper back, with additional shaping at the waist.
- Slightly dropped shoulders and plain full-length tapered sleeves with simple turned hems.
- Separate straight below-knee skirt with a short center-front hem slit.
- Self-fabric sash with shaped ends; planned discreet side-seam pockets.
This order covers one long-sleeved dress. It does not include a jumpsuit, sleeveless view or separate collar variation. The center-front zip stops at the waist; the skirt remains closed above its short hem slit.
Fabric and fitting development
Planned for opaque woven crepe or another supple woven dress fabric that supports the collar and shows the stitched pleats without excessive bulk. Jersey is not the intended fabric. Fabric suitability, support and material quantities will be settled during preparation.
Assess the shoulder drop, collar roll, upper-body ease, waist placement and skirt movement in a complete fitting sample. The sash shapes a loose bodice; it should not be used to conceal pulling or a poorly fitted zipper.
