A pull-on waist and plain straight legs

• Dedicated adult menswear draft with a relaxed seat and wide straight legs
• Elastic enclosed around the whole waist in a separate stitched casing
• Matching drawcord emerging at center front and tied into a small bow
• Two diagonal inset hip pockets with enclosed pocket bags
• Plain rear panels with a center seam and full-length turned hems
• Pull-on construction without a fly, belt loops, pleats, rear pockets or cuffs

Linen and fitting

An opaque, medium-light linen or linen-cotton woven with a soft fall is the starting material. Wash and press a swatch to assess shrinkage, seam bulk and how the cloth behaves at the pocket edge. A very stiff linen can make the gathered waist bulky; a very thin cloth may reveal the pocket bags.

Preparation will develop the men's rise, seat and leg balance together, including enough opening for the elastic waist to pass over the hips. The guide will address pocket bags, reinforced drawcord openings, elastic insertion and plain hems. A complete fitting sample should check sitting and bending, pocket access and the amount of waist gathering. The drawcord refines a suitable waist fit; it cannot correct an unsuitable rise or hip measurement.
