A continuous short playsuit sits beneath two button-on layers in this planned modular outfit. Eight small buttons around the upper hip are intended to anchor an ivory overblouse and a full petrol-teal skirt, bringing three coordinated pieces together without a natural-waist join in the base.
One playsuit with two attachable layers
- Opaque woven sleeveless playsuit with a high rounded neckline and broad cutaway shoulders
- Long front and rear waist-shaping darts in a continuous torso, with no horizontal waist seam
- Two separate roomy short legs with plain turned hems
- Eight upper-hip attachment buttons: four across the front and four across the rear
- Boxy open-front overblouse with a low standing shawl collar, three-quarter grown-on kimono sleeves and a level hip hem
- Full flared upper-calf skirt with a closed body, plain hem and reinforced buttonholes along its upper attachment edge
- Matching attachment buttonholes planned along the overblouse's lower edge
- A concealed center-back opening in the base playsuit, to be resolved during preparation
The assembled front and rear previews show the same outfit. The third view reveals the short playsuit and the detached layers, including their proposed buttonholes. This order includes the base playsuit, overblouse and skirt as one coordinated project. The layers are planned to attach to the base; independently wearable skirt and blouse versions are outside this preparation.
Plan the attachment before cutting final cloth
A supple, opaque cotton sateen or fine cotton-linen blend is the starting direction. Petrol teal keeps the continuous base and skirt coordinated, while warm ivory makes the overblouse and attachment line easy to see. Sample the main fabric, interfacing and doubled attachment edges together before choosing the cloth and buttons.
The shared hip attachment is a proposed function. Its reinforcement, opening clearance, spacing, stacked buttonhole arrangement and load from the skirt have not been sewn or function tested. The guide preparation will address long darts, torso and rise balance, the base opening, grown-on sleeves, collar shaping, skirt flare and reinforced attachment edges. Button counts communicate the design direction; final placement and overlap will be established in the original draft.
A complete fitting sample must check dressing and toileting access, sitting room, the short-leg openings and upper-hip pressure. Check the base by itself and with each layer attached, then with both layers together. Assess whether the button line carries the skirt without distorting the playsuit or pulling the blouse hem. The images do not demonstrate working fastenings or verified construction.
Choose the modular playsuit shape
The button-shoulder romper uses shoulder fastenings and patch pockets. The sleeveless romper has a separate waist join and side zipper. This design instead proposes removable outer layers sharing a button ring on one continuous base.
