Layered panes over a closed pair of shorts

• One pair of adult upper-thigh-length costume shorts with two distinct leg openings and a closed crotch
• Continuous opaque inner shorts, gathered into the waistband and lower leg bands
• Separate smooth-edged outer panes running vertically from the waist to each leg band
• Broad fitted waistband with a smooth front and a center-back joining seam
• Planned concealed opening at the left side for dressing
• Narrow, smooth leg bands beneath the puffed sections

The outer panes are individual pieces over the continuous inner garment. They are not printed stripes, closed alternating-color panels or openings exposing the body. The short legs have no ruffles, pockets or waist elastic. This order covers the shorts only; a shrug, corset, hat, collar or other costume piece is not included.

Midnight teal over copper shows the front and rear of the same design. Plum over pale antique gold is another fabric palette for this one pattern. These shorts are an original fantasy costume interpretation, with no claim of authenticated historical construction.

Cloth and pane assembly

A stable woven cotton or light twill is the starting direction for the outer panes and bands. Choose a softer opaque woven for the fuller inner shorts. Compare the fabrics for compatible shrinkage, weight and pressing behavior; stiff outer strips could flatten the puff, while heavy layers could pull at the waistband.

The English guide will address the closed inner shorts, turning and finishing each outer pane, distributing the puff evenly, joining both layers into the bands and inserting the side opening. Final pane count, inner fullness, closure length and support layers will be established during preparation. The concept images show the intended silhouette rather than a measured cutting plan.

A complete fitting sample must check waist and hip ease, crotch depth, seated coverage, thigh-band clearance and freedom to walk or bend. The inner layer provides coverage, so its fit must be assessed independently of the decorative outer panes. There is no promised compression, support or universal size fit.
