Quilted vests and gilets

Choose the women's reversible quilted vest for bound edges and a soft, relaxed shape. The men's quilted vest uses a zip front and stand collar. A separate baby quilted vest is planned around smaller proportions and a simple covered fastening. Each has its own construction and measurement requirements.

Tailored and shaped layers

The women's fitted waistcoat and men's vintage-inspired waistcoat are lined, button-front designs. For more length, compare the longline collared vest with the vest dress. The underbust fashion vest is a shaped layer intended to sit over a blouse.

Ties, drape and simple tops

A side-tie tabard has open sides and a plain pullover front. The wrap vest fastens across the body, while the waterfall vest hangs open with draped fronts. Looking for a jersey vest top rather than an outer layer? See the scoop-neck knit vest top.

Material and purpose

Compare the panelled western leather vest, the softly textured faux-fur vest and the pocket-focused utility vest. These projects use different materials and finishing methods. For miniature sewing, the 18-inch doll waistcoat is a separate doll-clothing design.

Choosing fabric and fit

A woven waistcoat, a quilted gilet and a stretch jersey top need different fabric and ease allowances. Measure over the clothes you plan to wear underneath an outer layer. Check bust or chest, waist and torso length before ordering, and make a fitting sample before cutting your final cloth.

A woven waistcoat for children

The kids button-front waistcoat has a V neckline, four buttons, pointed lower fronts and a plain back. It is a separate child garment project with planned lining and room for a shirt. Check the child's current chest, waist and back length; the adult and baby designs on this page are not interchangeable sizes.
